Assam Power Workers’ Union Protests for Job Security and Regularization
Members of the Assam State Outsource Power Workers’ Union (ASOPWU) protested at Bijuli Bhawan, demanding the regularization of 5,233 temporary workers in the APDCL, AEGCL, and APGCL. Union president Krishna Sarmah criticized the government for ignoring their demands and raised concerns over job cuts due to the installation of smart meters. The union’s 11-point charter includes calls for priority in recruitment, equal pay, and support for workers affected by accidents. A memorandum was submitted to the APDCL chairman.
