Assam Professor Among Winners of 2026 Breakthrough Prize in Physics

Dr. Atanu Nath, Assistant Professor of Physics at Tihu College in Assam’s Nalbari district, has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics as part of an international team of 376 scientists.

The team was recognised for its work on the Muon g−2 experiments conducted at CERN, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Fermilab. Hailing from Hailakandi district, Dr. Nath is among around 11 Indian scientists to receive the honour and is reportedly the only awardee currently working in India.

His achievement has been widely praised across Assam and the Northeast.
