Brahmaputra Tunnel Project to Use Forest Land Near Kaziranga Corridor

The proposed four-lane tunnel connecting Gohpur and Numaligarh across the Brahmaputra River will require 13.77 hectares of forest land and over 61 hectares of non-forest land near the eco-sensitive zone of Kaziranga Tiger Reserve.
The Rs 18,662 crore project, approved by the Union Cabinet, will be implemented by National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL).
The National Board for Wildlife has recommended the proposal with strict environmental conditions, including minimal tree felling, protection of wildlife corridors, controlled construction activities, and measures to reduce environmental impact.
