Assam Pushes Back 12 Illegal Migrants to Bangladesh, More Deportations Likely

Assam authorities pushed back 12 declared illegal Bangladeshi migrants from transit camps through the Sutarkandi border in Karimganj on Thursday night. Officials said over 30 migrants have already been deported recently and more than 50 others may be sent back within the next month. The action was carried out under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government will continue its “Mission Clean Up” against illegal migrants in the state.
