Assam Ravaged by Storms: Deaths, Destruction, and Chaos Across Districts

Heavy rains, thunderstorms, and hailstorms unleashed havoc across several districts of Assam, causing widespread destruction of property and tragic loss of life. In Charaideo district, a hailstorm claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman as her house collapsed. Transportation came to a halt due to uprooted trees and damaged electricity poles, leaving over 10,000 people affected and homeless. Similar scenes of devastation unfolded in Guwahati’s Dharapur during a Bihu function, where a pandal collapsed, trapping attendees amidst chaos. Badarpur in Karimganj district and Hojai also witnessed extensive damage to infrastructure and residential buildings. The aftermath of the storms has left communities reeling from the impact, with urgent efforts underway to restore normalcy and provide assistance to those affected.
