Assam recorded 4,219 road accidents and 1,008 deaths between January and March 2026, according to a road safety review meeting held in Dispur by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota.

Although fatalities slightly decreased compared to last year, the state still reports around 11 deaths daily due to road accidents. Guwahati, Kamrup, Nagaon, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Golaghat, Barpeta, Dhubri, and Hojai were identified as the worst-affected districts.

Officials were directed to strengthen road safety measures, improve black spots, enforce traffic rules strictly, and enhance emergency response and trauma care facilities under the PM RAHAT scheme.
