Assam Rifles Seize ₹52 Lakh Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes in Mizoram

Assam Rifles seized a large consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes worth about ₹52 lakh during an operation in Mizoram’s Champhai district near the India–Myanmar border. Acting on specific intelligence, troops intercepted suspicious movement in the Ruantlang village area and recovered 40 cases of cigarettes, including Peacock Classic and V brands.

The smuggled consignment, meant to bypass customs and tax regulations, was handed over to the Legal Metrology Department for further action. Assam Rifles said the operation reflects ongoing efforts to curb cross-border smuggling and strengthen security in the region.
