Assam Rolls Out Lifelong APAAR ID for School Students

The Assam Education Department has launched a 12-digit Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR ID) for all school-enrolled students, aligning with the NEP 2020’s “One Nation, One Student ID” initiative. APAAR IDs will link to students’ Aadhaar and Permanent Education Number (PEN) and store academic records digitally through the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and DigiLocker.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu urged parents to consent to their child’s APAAR ID during Parent-Teacher Meetings. Aadhaar update camps have been set up to ensure students’ biometric information is updated for smooth implementation.
