Assam Sends Officials to Meghalaya After Coal Mine Blast Kills Six Workers

The Assam government has deputed senior officials to Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills to oversee rescue and relief operations after six labourers from Assam were killed in an illegal coal mine blast. All the deceased were from Cachar district.
Five injured workers are undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The Assam administration is coordinating with the NDRF, while rescue efforts continue amid difficult conditions. The state government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for each deceased worker’s family.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Police arrested two suspected mine owners, and the overall death toll has risen to 25. Rescue operations are ongoing, with several workers still feared trapped.
