Assam Shuts Two Rehab Centres After Deaths of Meghalaya Residents
An investigation by Assam’s Social Justice and Empowerment Department revealed SOP violations at two unregistered rehab centres where two Meghalaya residents died in November 2024. Closure notices were issued, and no foul play was found in the deaths. Concerns were raised about a facilitator, Arup Jerial Passah, allegedly admitting patients from Meghalaya. Both state governments continue to address the issue.
