Assam Signs MoU with AAI to Study Five New Greenfield Airports

The Assam government has signed an MoU with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to conduct pre-feasibility studies for five proposed greenfield airports at Manas, Umrangso, Charaideo, Diphu and Majuli. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the locations are important for tourism, economic growth and national security, and reiterated plans to develop Guwahati as a regional air connectivity hub. Air traffic at Guwahati and Dibrugarh airports has seen steady growth, and approval has been granted for an MRO facility at Guwahati airport. The AAI said the studies will assess viability and sustainability before further approvals. Currently, Assam has seven airports, while Doloo airport awaits final clearances.
