Assam State Zoo Boosts Wildlife Rescue Efforts Amid Survival Rate Drop
The Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden in Guwahati is ramping up its wildlife rescue and rehabilitation initiatives following a drop in survival rates. Of 69 animals rescued in 2025, only 56% survived, down from 68% last year.
To address this, the zoo is building a new rescue and rehabilitation center and a modern veterinary hospital, set to open by year-end. Two rescue teams, supported by local forest divisions, continue to respond to distress calls. The zoo urges the public to report distressed animals to Aranya Bhawan, Panjabari, for timely interventions.
