Assam STF Nabs Two in Wildlife Smuggling Case, Seizes Endangered Species

In a major anti-wildlife trafficking operation, Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested two individuals in Nagaon district for allegedly smuggling endangered species and animal parts.
Acting on specific intelligence, the STF, with support from the Wildlife Crime Control Authority, intercepted a motorcycle near Kuthori in Jakhalabandha late Thursday night.
The accused — Bidya Singnar (30) and Samson Kathar (29) from Karbi Anglong — were caught with six Tokay Geckos, one live Slow Loris, and Pangolin scales weighing 10.63 kg. Police also seized their motorcycle and two mobile phones.
Officials suspect the items were sourced from Kaziranga National Park and intended for international trafficking networks.
The duo has been booked under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
