Assam Targets Free Foodgrains for Over 2.5 Crore People
The Assam government aims to provide free foodgrains to over 2.5 crore people, representing more than 68% of the population. With 2,51,89,775 beneficiaries targeted under NFSA-13, this initiative seeks to improve lives across the state. In January 2024, Assam enrolled over 42 lakh new beneficiaries, raising the total to 2.31 crore. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized a drive to include those previously excluded due to Aadhaar issues. Newly enlisted beneficiaries will fall under the Priority Household category. The enrollment is expected to finish by November, with foodgrain distribution set for the 1st to the 10th of each month, including doorstep delivery for Divyangjans.
