Assam Tea Workers Secure May Day Wages in Major Breakthrough

The Assam Tea Labour Union has secured May Day wages for temporary tea garden workers in Assam, calling it a historic achievement.
The decision was reached during a meeting in Tinsukia involving labour officials, union leaders and tea estate management. Workers of Baghjan Tea Estate will now receive pending May 1 wages for 2025 within the next few months.
ATLU leaders said temporary workers had long been denied wages on International Workers’ Day and added that the move could set an example for other tea estates across the region.
