Assam to Continue Providing Two Extra Eggs Weekly to Students in Riverine Areas

The Assam government has decided to continue providing two additional eggs every week to schoolchildren in Sar and Chapori (riverine) areas under the PM POSHAN Scheme during 2026-27. Eligible students will receive the extra eggs on Mondays and Fridays along with their regular mid-day meals.
The initiative covers schools in 14 districts and aims to improve nutrition among children in riverine and geographically challenging regions. The procurement rate has been retained at Rs 6.50 per egg, with funding linked to student attendance recorded on the PM POSHAN MIS portal.
