Assam to Develop 11 Small Hydropower Projects to Boost Energy Security

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam government will develop 11 small hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 137.2 MW at an estimated cost of ₹2,617 crore to strengthen energy security and move towards becoming a power-surplus state.
Speaking during the Budget 2026-27 discussion in the Assembly, Sarma said the state has planned an overall ₹77,353-crore investment in hydropower, thermal, solar and battery storage projects, along with major upgrades to the power transmission network to meet rising electricity demand.
