Assam to Issue Arms Licences to Indigenous People in Vulnerable Areas from August

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that indigenous people in Assam’s remote, vulnerable areas can apply for arms licences from the first week of August. An online portal will be launched for individual applications under a special government scheme. The move aims to empower locals in infiltration-prone districts like Dhubri, Nagaon, and Barpeta. Licences will be granted after strict verification. Sarma clarified the government will not provide weapons, only licences.
