Assam to Raise Two New Specialised Police Battalions

Dergaon: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans to establish two new specialised police battalions—one for disaster response and another to protect ONGC and Oil India installations. The decisions were taken during a two-day conference of senior police officers aimed at strengthening policing, disaster management and security in the state.
The government will also set up an Anti-Narcotics Task Force, target a rise in the conviction rate from 29.30% to 35%, and recruit another 15,000–20,000 police personnel over the next five years. Sarma said measures discussed at the Dergaon conference would be implemented over the next six months.
