Assam to Solar-Power Villages Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Assam plans to solar-power one village in each of its 35 districts under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme. Villages will compete to be selected as “model solar villages” based on the amount of renewable energy (RE) they install. The Assam Energy Development Agency, with APDCL’s help, will prepare project reports for the chosen villages, each eligible for a Rs 1 crore grant.

The solar projects will include rooftop solar, solar-powered livelihood equipment, and public lighting. Government offices will also be solarized, with departments preparing project reports for rooftop installations.
