Assam to Strengthen Ties with Southeast Asia via Major Infrastructure Projects
Assam is set to enhance its connectivity with Southeast Asia through key projects like the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, Act East Policy Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said on Thursday.
The Trilateral Highway will connect Manipur’s Moreh to Thailand’s Mae Sot, boosting trade and tourism. The Kaladan project will link Mizoram with Myanmar’s Sittwe Port via waterways and roads, enhancing economic integration.
Patowary highlighted other initiatives like the Agartala-Akhaura railway link, the BBIN Motor Vehicle Agreement, and the Northeast Economic Corridor for industrial development. He also emphasized expanding digital connectivity with ASEAN countries and the heritage tourism potential in Assam’s Charaideo, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
