Assam to Transform Defunct Cachar Paper Mill into Bamboo-to-Methanol Plant
The Assam government is set to convert the closed Cachar Paper Mill in Panchgram into a Bamboo-to-Methanol (BTM) plant, a project worth ₹2,000 crore that aims to create 18,900 jobs. The site will also include a Multimodal Logistic Park and an MSME Technology Centre. This initiative is part of the government’s effort to revitalize southern Assam’s industrial sector. While the new project has been welcomed, there are calls to also consider reviving the defunct paper mill, which had been a profitable enterprise before its closure in 2017
