Assam Tourism Minister Warns Against Overtourism in Kaziranga National Park

Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah expressed concerns about overtourism in Kaziranga as it reopens on October 1. He warned that footfall exceeding 1 lakh could harm biodiversity.

In 2023-24, the park recorded 3.27 lakh visitors, including 13,919 international guests. To address this, infrastructure upgrades are underway, including bungalow redevelopments.

Kaziranga will host an International Tourism Mart on November 26, attracting 400 industry participants. Around 700 local guides and safari drivers are also being trained for a quality tourism experience.
