Assam University Non-Teaching Staff Protest for Old Pension Scheme Restoration

The non-teaching staff of Assam University Silchar staged a protest outside the varsity on Thursday, demanding the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Led by the Assam University Non-Teaching Employees Association (AUNTEA), they claim the New Pension Scheme (NPS) fails to provide the same security as OPS, triggering uncertainty among employees.

Pinak Kanti Roy, AUNTEA’s general secretary, emphasized the need for “One Nation, One Pension,” while Sagnik Choudhury, the association’s president, urged the government to revoke NPS and restore OPS for central government employees.

This protest follows similar actions by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Employees Union, who organized a motorbike procession highlighting the NPS’s inadequacies and advocating for OPS’s comprehensive financial security benefits.
