Assam will present a bill in February 2024 outlawing “polygamy”

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, declared that a bill to outlaw polygamy will be introduced at the next session of the Assam Assembly in February 2024.

CM Sarma claims that they have chosen to take this action following consultations with a number of individuals and organisations.

“The bill prohibiting polygamy will be introduced during the Assam assembly session starting on February 4th,” Chief Minister Sarma said in a statement to the media.
