Assamese Film ‘Love You Messi’ Gets International Backing at Cannes

Assamese filmmaker Khanjan Kishore Nath’s upcoming Karbi-language film Love You Messi has received international support during the Cannes Film Market. UK-based Hong Kong creative Hiu Man Chan has joined the project as executive producer and will handle global sales, festival strategy, and distribution outside India.
The film follows Rang, an eight-year-old boy from a remote village in Karbi Anglong, Assam, who dreams of meeting football legend Lionel Messi. However, director Khanjan says the story is more about a disabled child’s dreams, struggles, and emotional journey than football itself.
Parts of the film were shot during Messi’s India visit last December, and production is expected to conclude by the end of the year. Khanjan Kishore Nath previously won the Rajat Kamal at the National Film Awards in 2020 for his short film Kachichinithu (The Boy with a Gun).
