Assam’s Budget 2025-26 Focuses on Green Economy and Wildlife Conservation

The Assam government’s 2025-26 budget emphasizes sustainable development, eco-tourism, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted Assam’s commitment to green initiatives, including plans to transform Guwahati into a Bamboo Smart City. The Gaja Mitra scheme will expand in five districts with AI-powered camera traps and conflict management teams. Napier grass will be planted to provide food for elephants, while canopy bridges will be installed to protect primates.

Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao will be developed as eco-tourism and clean energy hubs. Kaziranga National Park will receive ₹20 crore to replace old safari vehicles with electric ones. Compensation for human-wildlife conflict victims has been increased. The government will also establish a Green Packaging Hub and a carbon credit framework to attract global investments.
