Assam’s Liabilities Projected to Cross ₹2.06 Lakh Crore: RBI

Assam’s outstanding liabilities are projected to reach ₹2.06 lakh crore by the end of the current financial year, according to an RBI report. The state’s debt has risen steadily as a share of GSDP, reaching 27.9 per cent in 2026, with internal debt forming the largest portion. The report warned of deteriorating state finances due to high debt, rising welfare spending and fiscal risks. It also noted Assam among the states most vulnerable to climate change impacts, urging adoption of climate budgeting and fiscal consolidation.
