ATASU Protest for ST Status Ends in Detention Near Assam Assembly
All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) members protested near the Assam Assembly on Saturday demanding ST status for the Tai Ahom community. Police stopped the march and detained several leaders, including ATASU president Milan Burhagohain. ATASU warned of intensified protests if leaders aren’t released. The demand for ST status, pending for years, also includes five other communities in Assam.
