AYSAA Seeks Action on Rights of Small Tea Garden Workers

Dibrugarh: The Adivasi Youth Students Association of Assam (AYSAA) has urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to address alleged labour rights violations affecting workers in small tea gardens across Assam. The organisation, led by president Nipen Munda, submitted a memorandum seeking better wages, provident fund benefits, bonuses, safer transport and stronger enforcement of labour laws.

AYSAA demanded a minimum daily wage of Rs 451 and called for compulsory ATEPFO coverage for eligible small tea gardens, along with special labour inspections and a state policy for workers. The organisation also sought a Minimum Support Price for small tea growers to help them provide better wages. General secretary Rajesh Kerketta also participated in the demonstration.
