Bhatiapar Villagers Allege Irregularities in Gas Leak Relief Distribution

Residents of Bhatiapar in Sivasagar district have alleged irregularities in the Rs 25,000 relief distribution for gas leak victims. Around 16–17 families claim they were unfairly excluded despite being directly affected. Villagers accused local officials of bias and negligence, stating even the village headman hadn’t visited them. They warned of approaching the District Commissioner if the issue remains unresolved. Meanwhile, ONGC continues efforts to contain the gas leak, now in its seventh day, and has launched an internal probe into the rare geological incident.
