BJP, ASM Trade Blows as Early Strategies Emerge for 2026 Assam Polls

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed Congress will contest only 22 seats in the 2026 Assembly polls and accused the party of relying on funds and votes from the “miya” community. He alleged Congress candidates were asked to pay heavy amounts for tickets.

Sarma outlined the BJP-led NDA’s plan to contest 103 seats, stressing the party’s focus on youth and women candidates. He also said the BJP government has done more for the community through welfare schemes like Orunodoi and MMUA.
