BJP Secures Two Silchar Civic Seats Unopposed

Silchar: The BJP secured two wards without a contest in the first Silchar Municipal Corporation election after rival candidates withdrew their nominations on September 17. Bijendra Prasad Singh was elected unopposed from Ward 9 after Congress candidate Amalendu Dey and SUCI nominee Apanlal Das withdrew, while Bhakti Sen Talukdar secured Ward 20 after Independent candidate Rupali Das withdrew.

In Ward 12, Congress candidate Mousumi Das also withdrew, although the ward will continue to have a contest. The withdrawal process has left polling necessary in the remaining 40 of the corporation’s 42 wards. Voting is scheduled for October 3, with counting on October 6.
