BJP Targets 103 Seats as Assam CM Predicts Sweep in 2026 Polls

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP and its allies will contest 103 of Assam’s 126 seats in the 2026 assembly polls, expressing confidence of a “comfortable win.” After a BJP core committee meeting, he said the party’s development model will secure victory and added that delimitation has opened more opportunities for youth and women candidates.
Sarma stated the party expects support from Assamese Muslims but not from a particular community. He also said strict action will be taken against polygamy, “love and land jihad,” and land encroachment. The BJP has formed 36 sub-committees to prepare for the elections.
