In a daring daylight theft, miscreants looted Rs 5 lakh in cash from the premises of the Joint Director General of Health office in Barpeta Town, leaving residents in shock and authorities on high alert. The victim, Son Das, a resident of Shanti Nagar in Barpeta, had withdrawn the significant amount from Pragjyotish Gaulia Bank earlier in the day. The discovery of scattered Rs 10 notes near his Bolero car, parked within the office compound, indicated foul play. Despite a swift response in alerting authorities and lodging a formal complaint at Barpeta Sadar police station, the incident has stirred the community, prompting increased security measures and a renewed emphasis on vigilance.
