Bongaigaon Civil Hospital Struggles with Severe Staff Shortage
Bongaigaon Civil Hospital, a 200-bed facility built in 2011 at a cost of ₹9.11 crore, is facing a critical staff shortage, impacting healthcare services. Key positions, including the superintendent, deputy superintendent, and various specialist roles, have remained vacant for years. The hospital currently operates with only 18 doctors, despite needing 32, and lacks essential staff such as surgeons, gynecologists, pharmacists, and nurses. During a recent visit, Health Minister Ashok Singhal reviewed the hospital’s infrastructure but did not address the manpower crisis.
