Bornagar Power Hub to Boost Grid Reliability in Northeast

A high-capacity transmission project is being developed at Bornagar in Assam under the North Eastern States Strengthening Scheme (NESS) to reduce dependence on the flood-prone Bongaigaon substation. The new 765/400/220 kV facility in Bajali district will serve as an alternate power entry point into the Northeast, improving grid resilience and reducing outage risks. To be implemented by NER Expansion Transmission Limited, the project will initially operate as a 400 kV switching station with scope for future expansion. Land acquisition for the substation is currently in progress.
