Brahmaputra Erosion Sparks Fear in Chabua’s Balijan Area

Severe erosion by the Brahmaputra has damaged Garudharia village and Balijan tea estate, threatening its tea factory. Locals, fearing displacement and loss of livelihood, held a river deity puja seeking protection. Around 30 bighas of tea bushes have been lost. Chabua MLA Ponakan Baruah and Lahowal MLA Binod Hazarika visited the area. Anti-erosion works have started, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expected to visit soon.
