BSF Opens Fire on Suspected Cattle Smuggler, Resulting in Fatality at Indo-Bangladesh Border

In a tragic incident along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Mankachar, the Border Security Force (BSF) reportedly opened fire on a suspected cattle smuggler, leading to the death of 26-year-old Shahinur Islam. The incident occurred on February 21 when Islam and his associates were attempting to smuggle cattle. Despite warnings from BSF personnel to stop, the smugglers persisted, prompting the BSF to fire in self-defense. Islam was fatally hit, and his accomplices managed to escape. The BSF recovered Islam’s body, which has been handed over to the local police. Cattle smuggling remains a pervasive issue along the Indo-Bangladesh border, particularly in western Assam. An investigation is underway, and a case has been registered.
