CBSE Issues Guidelines for Three-Language Policy Under NEP 2020

New Delhi: The CBSE has released detailed guidelines for implementing the three-language policy under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Students entering Class 9 in the 2026–27 session will study a third language, but it will be assessed only through internal school evaluation, with no Class 10 Board exam for that language.
The Board also announced exemptions for Children with Special Needs (CwSN), CBSE schools abroad, and certain migrant and foreign students. Full implementation, including a Class 10 Board examination in the third language, will apply to students entering Class 6 from the 2026–27 academic session onwards.
