Central Team Flags Riverbank Erosion as Major Concern in Assam

Guwahati: An Inter-Ministerial Central Team, after assessing recent flood damage in Assam, stated that riverbank erosion poses a greater long-term threat than flooding in many parts of the state. The team recommended strengthening embankments, dredging vulnerable river stretches, and using geo-tube bags to control erosion.
During the review, officials reported that the recent floods affected 549 villages and inundated over 8,000 hectares of agricultural land, while also causing damage to roads, bridges, houses, and public infrastructure across several districts.
