Fisherman Arrested for Illegal Catching of Egg-Laden Fish in Sonitpur

Sonitpur: The Sonitpur district administration has intensified its crackdown on the illegal catching of egg-laden fish during the monsoon fishing ban. On Friday, a Fisheries Department team caught a fisherman, identified as Abu Sam from Nagaon district, fishing illegally in the Brahmaputra River at Tinikhoria Era-suti in the Bihaguri area.

The team seized a wooden boat, fishing net, and a large quantity of indigenous fish before handing the accused over to Bihaguri Police. Officials said legal action has been initiated under the Fisheries Act, and warned that strict action will also be taken against anyone found selling egg-laden fish in local markets.
