Centre Focuses on Railway Expansion in Assam: 6 Key Projects Underway

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced six major railway projects currently underway in Assam, including track doublings and new lines like Murkongselek-Pasighat and Tetelia-Byrnihat. Final location surveys for two more routes—Agthori-Dekargaon and Tezpur-Silghat—have begun. Since 2021, 14 surveys totaling 1,869 km have been sanctioned. As of April 2024, 18 projects (1,368 km, ₹74,972 crore) are in progress in the Northeast, with ₹40,549 crore spent and 313 km commissioned. Projects are planned zonally based on connectivity needs, traffic, and feasibility.
