Centre Rejects Man-Made Cause for Assam Floods

Guwahati: The Centre has said the severe floods in Assam in July 2026 were caused by incessant rainfall in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, rejecting claims that man-made factors were responsible. The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati also reported no cloudburst during the period.

The Centre said 71 people died in the floods and highlighted ₹342.63 crore released to Assam over the past five years for flood management and anti-erosion works. It also noted ongoing flood forecasting and river protection measures in the state.
