Centre Releases Rs 716 Crore Aid to Assam for Flood Relief

The Ministry of Home Affairs has released Rs 716 crore to Assam as aid from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) following severe floods this year. An eight-member interministerial team visited several affected districts, including Dhemaji, Nagaon, Cachar, and Karimganj, and reported severe damage.

Other northeastern states also received aid, including Rs 50 crore to Manipur, Rs 21.60 crore to Mizoram, Rs 19.20 crore to Nagaland, Rs 23.60 crore to Sikkim, and Rs 25 crore to Tripura. During the floods, over 150 people and 200 animals, including 13 rhinos, died in Assam. Meanwhile, Bihar received Rs 655.60 crore from the Centre.
