Centre to Support Assam’s Flood Rehabilitation Efforts

Guwahati: The Centre will extend assistance to Assam for rehabilitating people affected by the recent floods, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said. Several Union ministries are assessing requirements, including rural roads and housing under PMGSY, drinking water through the Jal Jeevan Mission, and repair of damaged roads.

Sonowal also announced plans for a Maritime Skill Development Centre that could train around 5,000 students annually. He said new jetties are also planned across the 20 National Waterways in the Northeast, along with jetties at major water bodies to promote tourism and strengthen water-based connectivity.
