Chutia Community Protests for ST Status in Assam

The Chutia community held protests in Dibrugarh and Golaghat on Monday, demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, creation of an autonomous council, and preservation of historic Chutia sites. In Dibrugarh, members of the All Assam Chutia Students’ Union (AACSU) stormed the District Commissioner’s office, accusing the BJP-led government of neglecting their demands since 2014. Similar protests were staged by the All Golaghat District Chutia Students’ Association (AGDCSA) in Golaghat. The unions warned of intensified agitation if the government remains unresponsive. A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister.
