Chutiya Community Rallies in Jorhat Demanding ST Status

Thousands from the Chutiya community held a rally in Jorhat demanding Scheduled Tribe status, accusing the Centre and Assam government of repeated false assurances. Protesters marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, vowing statewide agitation from November 26 if the upcoming government report on tribal recognition excludes them. Community leaders criticised BJP leaders, including ministers from their own community, for not supporting their cause and warned of campaigning against the government in the 2026 elections.
