CM Announces Rs 56 Crore Handloom Centre in Bokakhat on National Handloom Day
On National Handloom Day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a Rs 56 crore handloom centre in Bokakhat. The centre will handle all handloom activities and promote Assam’s traditional weaving. It will serve as a hub for artisans to showcase and market their products. The government will also buy unsold Gamosas worth Rs. 100 crores to support weavers. Recent bans on importing traditional garments like Gamosas and Mekhela Chadars aim to protect local weavers.
