CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Files ₹500-Crore Defamation Suit Against Congress Leaders

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday filed a defamation suit seeking ₹500 crore in damages against Congress leaders Jitendra Singh, Bhupesh Baghel and Gaurav Gogoi over alleged defamatory statements made at a press conference.

The move follows allegations by Gogoi that the Chief Minister’s family acquired large tracts of land, which Sarma has denied. The legal action comes amid continued political tension, even as the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee staged a protest in Dispur over the issue.
